What is the purpose of the transmission shift cable?
By Forinfos - 17/06/2025 - 0 comments
A transmission shift cable, also called a shifter cable, is the link between the shifter handle and the transmission in a vehicle. Its position changes as a driver moves the shifter handle in a car, which controls the gear setting of a vehicle.
The cable is attached to the car in two spots for stabilization, which lets the shifter move the cable as a driver changes gears. If this cable breaks due to stretching, a vehicle will not be able to switch gears. The cable must be replaced when this happens, and the replacement can be done at home or by a mechanic.
