The purpose of the Uniform Commercial Code is to ensure business activities are more efficient by making the laws consistent across all of the states in the United States, explains Nolo. The laws allows businesses to grow while staying consistent and accountable in all jurisdictions.
The UCC is broken up into 11 different articles, states Nolo. They are then further subdivided into parts and then sections. Some areas that the UCC regulates are the sale of goods, leasing of goods and the negotiable instruments that are exchanged for money, such as promissory notes and checks. The first UCC was published in 1952.
