What is PUVA light treatment?

PUVA light treatment is a medical procedure designed to kill off irregular cells that cause a variety of skin conditions. The treatment is used on people suffering from eczema, lichen planus and psoriasis.
The light treatment works by exposing patients to an ultraviolet light shortly after they take specific medication. The skin conditions this procedure is used on are often a result of cells in the body that are multiplying too rapidly, and the ultraviolet rays produced from the treatment kill or slow down the multiplication of these cells without damaging normal skin cells. The treatment is also used to increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun.
