Qatar is located in the Middle East. Qatar consists of a peninsula bordering the Persian Gulf and the country of Saudi Arabia. The Gulf of Bahrain separates Qatar from Bahrain to the northwest.

Qatar covers a total area of about 4,500 square miles, making it a little smaller than the state of Connecticut, and the 166th largest country in the world. Qatar has a coastline that stretches approximately 350 miles. The capital and largest city of Qatar is Doha, located along the eastern coast of the country. Doha had a population of about 1.3 million people as of 2013. Qatar has a total estimated population of over 2.1 million people as of 2014.
