Where is Tahiti located?

Tahiti, also known as French Polynesia, is located in the South Pacific Ocean in the southern and western hemispheres. Its capital city of Papeete is situated at 17 degrees, 32 minutes S latitude and 149 degrees, 34 minutes W longitude.

Tahiti consists of five island groups called archipelagos. It stretches approximately 23.5 miles east to west and 13.5 miles north to south and covers 403 square miles in all. Papeete is located 1,205 miles south of the equator. The city is 4,103 miles southwest of Los Angeles, which is about an eight-hour flight, and 4,251 miles east of Cairn, Australia.
