Medicaid is a U.S. government insurance program that is based largely on need. Because of this, a portion of the requirements for Medicaid focus on the total household income of an applicant. The exact income requirements will vary by state, with each state using the poverty level to determine eligibility.
There is a national minimum requirement for the income requirements for Medicaid. This requirement was updated with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in 2013. This minimum income requirement is 133 percent of the federal poverty level. Applicants for Medicaid must also meet residency and citzenship requirements in order to qualify for coverage.
