Hatshepsut was born around 1500 B.C. in Egypt. She was likely born in Thebes, which was the capital city at the time of her birth, but this is not recorded.
Hatshepsut was born the daughter of Thuthmoses I, and she married her brother Thutmoses II. After Thutmoses II's untimely death her young stepson, later Thutmoses III, was to be Pharaoh, but Hatshepsut took the unprecedented step of seizing power for herself, becoming the most successful reigning Queen in Ancient Egypt. She held power until her death, aged about 50.
Her mother Ahmes was Thuthmoses I's primary wife and may have also been his sister, but her parentage is not clearly recorded.
