When was Stephen Hawking born?

Stephen William Hawking was born on Jan. 8th, 1942, in Oxford, England. His parents' house was in London, but during World War II, it was considered safer to have children in Oxford.

Stephen Hawking is well known in the field of physics, having authored many books on the subject. In 1950, Hawking attended the St. Albans High School for Girls at the age of 8. Boys were allowed to attend if they resided in certain houses. A few months later, Hawking attended the St. Albans School, where he studied until starting at the University of Oxford at the age of 17. Hawking completed his graduate work in cosmology at the University of Cambridge.
