What are quilting stitches?

Quilt stitches hold quilts together and should be the same length on both sides of the quilt and be evenly spaced. Quilt stitches are distinguished from regular stitching by the fact that quilt stitches hold the layers of fabric and insulation together.
A quilt is a blanket composed of multiple pieces of quilting. Each quilting piece, which is also called a quilting square, consists of two layers of fabric with a layer of insulating material between them. The various quilted pieces are prepared using quilting stitches. Then the entire blanket is assembled by sewing the quilted pieces together using strips of regular fabric called sashing.
