Are radiant heating systems energy efficient?

Radiant heating systems are energy efficient in certain usage scenarios and their energy rating varies depending on the model that is purchased. A radiant heating system uses infrared radiation to only heat up people or objects within a given space before warming up the air.
A radiant heating system is typically more energy efficient when it is used for short periods of time as it provides direct warmth. It loses its efficiency, however, when it is used for long periods of time to heat up any given space. If the object of the heating system is to maintain the warmth of a large space, it is recommended that a convection heating system is used instead.
