What is radon 222?

By Forinfos - 13/02/2025 - 0 comments

Radon 222 is the decay product of radium 226. Radon is an odorless, colorless and tasteless noble gas that does not react with other chemicals. It is radioactive and has a half-life of 3.8 days.

Radon 222 and radium 226 are part of the decay chain of uranium 238. Since uranium is present in the Earth's crust, small amounts of radon 222 and radium 226 are found in almost all of the rocks, soil and water on Earth. Radon is one of the densest known substances and is considered a health hazard due to its radioactivity. Since it is a heavy gas, it accumulates in basements or other low places.
