What is a rainbow eucalyptus?

Rainbow eucalyptus is a species of eucalyptus tree that is known for its multicolored bark. Known by the scientific name Eucalyptus deglupta, rainbow eucalyptus can also be known by the common names of Mindanao gum or rainbow gum. The multicolored bark tones include shades of green, blue, orange and purple.
These colors are revealed when the rainbow eucalyptus sheds its outer orangey-brown bark, which happens during the summer. This outer bark peels in patches, first revealing a light green color and then darkening to other hues as it ages. The colors on the rainbow eucalyptus are more pronounced and vibrant in tropical areas.
