What is the best-rated smoothie maker in 2014?

In 2014, Consumer Reports recommended the Vitamix 5200 as the best blender for smoothies. They listed the Blendtec Designer 725 as the second favorite model.

Consumer Reports cited the ability of the Vitamix 5200 to make purees without chunks. They rated the Blendtec Designer 725 as performing nearly as well and liked its intuitive preprogrammed selections, though it retailed for $200 more than the Vitamix.

For a portable blender, they recommended the Ninja Nutri Ninja Pro for making smoothies. The Vitamix S30 was also recommended, but the retail price was over $300 more than the Ninja Pro.

For a budget blender, Consumer Reports recommended the Ninja Master Prep Professional QB1004.
