Does rayon shrink?

Rayon shrinks if not properly cared for. Rayon that is treated with a special finish does not shrink when machine-washed, but is more expensive than untreated rayon.

Rayon fabric weakens when it gets wet or as a result of tumbling in the dryer. Rayon garments with care labels stating "Machine wash" or "Washable" should be hand-washed and air-dried to maintain their original shape and size. If the label states "Dry clean only," the garment or linen should be dry cleaned by a professional. Rayon with a "Dry clean only" label loses its softness and, if printed with a design, bleeds or fades if machine-washed.
