What is the RDA for caffeine?

There is no recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for caffeine, however, the Mayo Clinic states that up to 400 milligrams of caffeine should be safe in a healthy adult. That is about four cups of coffee or around 10 caffeinated soda beverages.

Nutrition.gov states that RDA was set in place for vitamins, minerals and supplements. Caffeine is not a vitamin, mineral, or supplement and therefore is not regulated to have RDA limits.

Caffeine can increase heart rate which can be a negative effect in those with cardiovascular disease. Always limit caffeine intake, especially if under a doctor's care for a heart-related condition.
