The really small, common household moths are called tineid moths. These moths, which include the clothes moths and carpet moths, can be between 0.28 and 0.3 inch long. Unlike the larvae of other moths and butterflies, the larvae of tineid moths eat fibers such as cotton and wool.
Some types of these larvae eat flour, feathers, hair and bran. The adult clothes moth doesn't feed, and its entire life cycle lasts between four and six months.
The clothes moth is native to Eurasia, but it has been transported by humans to many other places in the world. Methods for controlling the larvae include brushing, vacuuming, and using insecticides or mothballs.
