As of 2014, the recommended daily intake of calcium for healthy adult men and women aged 19 to 50 is 1,000 mg per day, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Daily calcium intake differs by age and gender.
For example, the recommended daily intake of calcium for males aged 51 to 70 is 1,000 mg per day, but 1,200 mg for females, because of the risk of osteoporosis. Healthy male and female preteens and teenagers, aged 9 to 18, should have an intake of 1,300 mg per day. Good sources of calcium include yogurt, cheese, milk and other calcium-fortified foods.
