How do I refinish furniture with Roxton maple stain?

To refinish Roxton furniture, sand it, clean it off, apply the maple stain and apply oil or sealant. Because Roxton Furniture Ltd went out of business in 2005 and the company's original stain is no longer sold, select an available stain that closely matches the original color of the furniture.
- Sand the furniture
Put on safety goggles to protect your eyes, and sand the furniture thoroughly to even out the stain. Begin with an orbital sander, and finish up the fine details by hand. Sand with the grain to avoid damaging the maple, and sand slowly to avoid missing any rough swirls.
- Clean the furniture
Use a vacuum to remove the sawdust and grit from the furniture. Afterwards, wipe down the furniture with a cloth.
- Apply the stain
Before staining the furniture, apply a pre-stain conditioner or sealant to create a more uniform surface. Depending on the type of stain, apply it with a spray bottle or brush. If using a brush, apply the stain evenly with long, smooth strokes.
- Seal the stain
After the stain dries, protect the wood with a layer of sealant, such as polyurethane. Oil-based polyurethane dries in seven to nine hours, while latex polyurethane dries quicker.
