What is the refrigerator drip pan?

The refrigerator drip pan is a container that receives condensation streaming in from the freezer’s defrost drain and exposes it outside for evaporation. The drip pan also collects excess dirt and fluids expelled during the regular defrost process.

Though refrigerator models vary in design, the drip pan is generally located at the bottom of most units to allow liquids to flow easily from the top to the bottom of the refrigerator. The pan can be accessed by removing the kick panel placed on the lower front of the refrigerator, or by pulling the unit from the wall and locating the pan at the bottom.
