Kansas is located in the Midwestern region of the United States. The state itself is divided into three regions: the Dissected Till Plains, the Southeastern Plains and the Great Plains.
The Dissected Till Plains are located in the northeast of Kansas and are known for their fertile soil for farming. The Great Plains are in the west of Kansas and are comprised of a grassy prairie area that stretches from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. The Southeastern Plains contain the Osage Plains and the Flint Hills, which are located in the center of the state. All of the regions are characterized by flatness.
