Safety regulations prohibit the storage of propane cylinders near entries, exits and stairways. Never store propane cylinders in a garage, and be sure to wear gloves when connecting and disconnecting cylinders to prevent freezer burn.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Compressed Gas Association promulgate regulations for safe propane storage. Store propane cylinders that are not in use outside in an open-air containers and close the valves to reduce the risk of leakage. Store gas grill propane cylinders vertically. Store forklift propane cylinders either vertically or horizontally. Periodically check the dates on all propane cylinders and return those that are past their requalification dates.
