How do you remove a battery?

To remove a car battery, turn off the engine, set the parking brake, and open the hood. Using a combination wrench, loosen and remove the negative and positive battery cables from the battery. Grab the bottom of the battery, and lift it out of the battery tray.

1. Turn off the engine, and open the hood

   Set the parking brake, shut the car off completely, and open up the hood.

2. Remove the positive battery cable

   Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the black positive battery cable in place. Using your hands, twist the cable off the battery terminal.

3. Remove the negative battery cable

   Using the same method, remove the red negative battery cable from the battery.

4. Pull the battery out

   Hold the bottom of the battery or the handle if it has one. Pull the battery out of the battery tray.
