Remove black mold by placing the fabric in sunlight for several hours. Soak the fabric in a solution of vinegar and water, and then cover the mold with a baking soda paste. Allow the fabric to dry before washing.
- Put on a mask and gloves
Before handling mold-covered fabric, put on a face mask and elbow-length rubber gloves.
- Place the fabric outside
Place the fabric in direct sunlight, and spread it as flat as possible. Allow the fabric to absorb the sunlight for several hours.
- Create a soaking solution
Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a large bucket.
- Soak the fabric
Fully submerge the fabric in the solution. Allow the fabric to soak for one hour.
- Spread out the fabric
Remove the fabric from the bucket, and spread it out in a well-ventilated area.
- Mix a baking soda paste
Combine 1 tablespoon of baking soda with enough water to create a thick paste. Slowly add water until the consistency resembles toothpaste.
- Apply paste to the mold
While wearing gloves, knead the baking soda paste into the mold-covered areas. Allow the paste to dry completely.
- Wash the fabric
Place the fabric in a washing machine, and run a hot-water cycle.
- Dry the fabric
Dry the fabric in a clothes dryer on a high-heat setting. Check to make sure the black mold is eliminated.
