Remove deodorant build-up from shirts by pre-treating with stain removers, using vinegar, trying meat tenderizer and using denatured alcohol. After build-up is removed, launder as usual. Products can be tried in any order, and as many as needed can be used.
- Pre-treat with stain removers
To remove deodorant from shirts, apply an enzymatic pre-treater. These stain fighters contain enzymes that can break down the deodorant deposits. Follow the directions on the label to prevent bleaching or staining.
- Use vinegar
Soak the garment in cool water and vinegar. Add a cup of vinegar to the soak cycle of the washing machine. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, drain, and rinse. If the build-up remains, mix a one-to-one vinegar and water solution and scrub gently with a toothbrush, then rinse.
- Try alcohol
Apply denatured alcohol to the area with the deodorant build-up. Use the alcohol full strength. Gently scrub if needed, or allow it to soak in for a short period of time. Rinse with cool water.
- Use meat tenderizer
Make a paste of water and meat tenderizer. Apply it to the stiff area, rubbing into the fabric. Let sit overnight, then rinse.
- Launder normally
Once the build-up is removed, wash as usual. Use the temperature and cycle directed on the garment's label. Ensure all stains, build-up and pre-treaters are gone before drying.
