To remove labels from wine bottles, soak the bottles in a solution of water and baking soda for about 30 minutes. If the labels do not peel off on their own, finish the task by carefully removing them with a straight-edge razor or your fingernails.
- Fill a bucket with a water and baking soda solution
In a large bucket or pail, combine about 2 gallons of water, enough to completely cover the label on the bottle, and 1 cup of baking soda.
- Soak the bottles
Place up to three bottles at once in the water and baking soda solution. Allow the bottles to soak for 30 minutes.
- Remove the bottles, and check the labels
Remove the bottles from the water. If the labels have come off completely, remove them from the water as well, and lay them out flat to dry if you plan to save them.
- Peel off the labels if necessary
If the labels remain stuck to the bottles, carefully use a straight-edge razor or your own fingernails to peel them off in one piece.
- Remove any adhesive from the bottles with steel wool
Lightly rub the bottles with a steel wool pad to remove any adhesive residue.
