To eliminate musty smells from antique dresser drawers, carefully remove the drawers, and spray a light coating of vodka along the drawer interior. Once the drawers are fully dry, replace them, and place a ventilated container with vinegar in each one. Allow the vinegar to rest for 24 hours before removing.
- Remove the drawers
Carefully remove each drawer from the dresser, and set them aside.
- Prepare cleaning solution
Pour 1 cup of vodka into a spray bottle. Do not dilute the alcohol with water.
- Spray the drawers
Spray a light mist of vodka along the interior spaces of each drawer. Concentrate on areas where the musty smell is most potent, but do not saturate the drawers.
- Dry the drawers
Place the lightly dampened drawers outside in direct sunlight, and allow the drawers to completely dry.
- Replace the drawers
Carefully place the dried drawers back in the dresser.
- Prepare an odor-absorbing solution
Pour 1 cup of distilled white vinegar in a plastic container with a lid. Punch four holes through the container lid. Prepare a container for each drawer.
- Place the containers in the drawer
Place a container in each dresser drawer, being careful not to spill the vinegar. Allow the vinegar containers to rest in the drawers for at least 24 hours.
- Check for lingering odors
After 24 hours, smell the drawers. If the odor still exists, let the containers remain in the drawers for an additional 24 hours. If the scent is gone, remove the vinegar containers from drawers.
