- Locate the tomato suckers
Tomato suckers are the little side shoots between the branch and the stem of the tomato plant. To encourage healthy growth, remove all suckers below the first flower cluster.
- Pinch the sucker
Pinch the tomato sucker between your thumb and forefinger.
- Snap the sucker off
Bend the sucker back and forth until it snaps off. If the sucker has gotten large and it doesn't pinch off easily, use a retractable razor knife.
