Removing wallpaper with homemade remedies requires basic household items and caution. Items required for this project include lemons, warm water and a bucket. Gloves and sponges are necessary as well, along with cloths for covering the floor and furniture.
Prepare surrounding area
Cover the floor beneath the wallpaper with cloths to avoid ruining carpets. Cover nearby furniture as well. For extra safety, a guard can be placed around the area to stop children or pets from entering.
Make the solution
Fill a bucket with 2 liters of warm water and 2 liters of white vinegar. Stir the mixture with a wooden stick. Cut a few lemons in half, and squeeze as much juice as possible into the water. The acidic content in lemons strengthens the potency of the solution.
Wear protection
Wear protective long gloves before applying the solution, which may irritate the skin. The gloves also allow for mixing with the hands to attain a better solution.
Apply the solution
Use a sponge to apply the solution over the areas of wallpaper that need to be stripped away. The solution is also effective in removing the underlying wallpaper glue.
Remove the wallpaper
Remove the paper from the wall, focusing on a small section at a time to allow enough time for the wallpaper to be removed before the solution dries. Apply more of the solution where necessary, and use a scoring tool for stubborn spots.
Store the solution
When finished removing the wallpaper, pour the homemade solution into clear plastic containers for later use. Make labels to identify the solution, and ensure that it's stored in a safe place.
