Rental assistance programs provide help with paying rent for families with children, seniors and other vulnerable groups of people. In order to receive assistance, most programs require that applicants prove they make less than a specified amount in gross household income.
Individuals must file an application with one of the organizations that provides rental assistance in their area. Most organizations have different criteria, so before applying individuals are advised to review requirements on the organization's website or contact a representative. After applying, the organization reviews the application and decides whether or not to provide rental assistance and how much to offer.
