To reset CMOS, you need to access your motherboard's BIOS, and reset the BIOS to factory settings. You need to know the correct key combination to enter your specific motherboard's BIOS settings.

  1. Determine your motherboard's access key

    Restart your computer, and wait for your motherboard's splash screen to display on the monitor to learn the access key.

  2. Access the BIOS

    Press the key intermittently to enter the BIOS. If you were too late, restart the computer again, and press the key intermittently before the splash screen appears.

  3. Reset the BIOS

    Search the home screen of the BIOS, or scroll through the settings. Highlight the reset option and press Enter, or press the key assigned to the reset function to reset the BIOS.
