Will resetting a tablet cause you to lose your apps?

Performing a factory reset on an Android tablet or restoring an iPad to its default settings deletes all installed apps. However, both Google's Play Store and Apple's App Store let users download apps they previously paid for paid for after resetting a device or switching to a new one.
In most cases, users lose application data when performing a factory reset on an Android phone if the data is stored internally. Data stored on an external SD card, however, is preserved. In addition, a number of apps on both Android and iOS devices store data remotely; this information might be downloaded again. Android and Apple tablets both provide ways to back up app data.
