The result of the reaction between CaCO3 and HCl is the compounds CO2, CaCl2 and H2O. The balanced equation for this reaction is written as CaCO3 + 2 HCl = CO2 + CaCl2 + H2O.
On the left side of the equation, CaCO3 is the chemical formula for calcium carbonate, and HCl is the chemical formula for hydrochloric acid. On the right side, CO2 is the chemical formula for carbon dioxide, CaCl2 is the chemical formula for calcium chloride and H2O is the chemical formula for water. The numbers in front of each ion are called the stoichiometric coefficients. They balance the equation.
