Reviews generally praise the Toyota LandCruiser Prado for its refined engine, smooth ride, off-road capabilities and long range but criticize the high price tag. The sports utility vehicle is not available in the United States, as of December 2015.
Accompanied by a six-speed automatic gearbox, the four-cylinder 2.8-liter turbodiesel DOHC engine receives acclaim for running silent and providing the vehicle with high performance. The engine produces 130 kW power at 3,400 rpm and 350 newton-meter or of torque at 1,600 rpm. This enables the vehicle to tow trailers up to 2,500 kilograms.
With an independent suspension with an anti-roll bar for the front and a rigid live axle suspension with an anti-roll bar for the rear wheels, the Prado is highly capable in off-road situations. While the front wheels also have upper and lower wishbones, the rear wheels have upper and lower link trailing arms. As such, reviewers note that the SUV offers a high-quality ride regardless of road conditions. The suspension absorbs corrugations and potholes easily.
Also praised is the range of the SUV. With a fuel tank that can hold 150 liters, the Land Cruiser Prado has a maximum range of more than 2,000 kilometers. The vehicle consumes 8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
As of December 2015, Toyota suggests a retail price of 52,990 to 84,490 Australian Dollars for the vehicle. This is around a 2 percent increase from the 2015 model.
