Which rice has less arsenic in it?

Rice that typically has less arsenic in it is the white basmati rice from California, India and Pakistan, according to Laura Jeffers, MEd, RD, LD, of Cleveland Clinic. Rinsing rice helps to lower the arsenic content in most types of rice, as well.

Most rice from the United States, specifically Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana, has higher arsenic levels. Sushi rice and fast-cooking rice are the exceptions, as they have less arsenic and are still from the United States. Brown rice typically has more arsenic than white rice, so it is recommended that brown rice from Pakistan, India and California be selected first, as those locations produce brown rice with less arsenic.
