How do you get rid of flying ants?

Flying ants, also called winged ants, can be exterminated with insecticides readily available at stores. Winged ants are the only members of a colony that can reproduce. If winged ants are seen in a house during the winter, it is likely they have established a colony somewhere inside.

Two types of insecticides can kill flying ants: insecticidal dust and baits. Insecticidal dust is typically used when the colony has already been located and the dust can be applied directly to it. Baits can be placed anywhere, and the ants will carry it to the colony, eventually wiping it out completely.
