How do you get rid of ticks on dogs?

To remove a tick from a dog, wear gloves while using tweezers to grasp the tick close to the dog's skin without pinching the dog. Pull the tick out in a straight motion. Make sure the whole tick has been removed.

Store the tick in a small container with rubbing alcohol, which kills the tick. Note the date on the container so that if the dog becomes ill, a vet can test the tick for diseases. Clean the dog's skin with an antiseptic product, and clean the tweezers and gloves. After removing the tick, observe the affected area on the dog for any sign of infection. See a vet in the event of infection or development of other symptoms, including loss of appetite, swollen joints, fever or slowness to move.
