What is a right or freedom from the First Amendment?

According to Cornell University Law School, the First Amendment protects the rights to freedom of religion, the right to assemble, and freedom of expression, which includes freedom of speech and of the press. It also provides the right to petition the government in the event of grievances.

The First Amendment prohibits Congress from making any laws to establish an official religion or laws that prohibit the free exercise of religion. The amendment allows for freedom of speech in the form of self-expression without government interference. Although the amendment refers to freedom of the press, it actually applies to any individual who publishes and disseminates written expression.
