Rodents eat a wide variety of foods, including nuts, fruits and vegetables. Rats are the only rodents that eat fish and meat, but all rodents like dog and cat food. Human trash is a good source of food for rodents.
Rats eat just about anything but are particularly partial to scraps of human food, road kill and other carcasses. Beavers are a breed of rodent that eat only plants, including grass, twigs and trees.
Porcupines eat pine cones, as do squirrels. Squirrels also eat bark, but the squirrel diet includes mostly nuts, which they rely on as a food source year-round.
