Does the Roku player support surround sound?

As of 2015, all current Roku players support Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound. Surround sound is available on Roku channels such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video and Vudu.

To enable surround sound on Roku, go to the Settings menu, select Audio, then select Surround Sound. The Roku have an HDMI cable connection to an audio receiver capable of decoding Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus signals for surround sound. Dolby 7.1 surround sound is available on some titles.

The first Roku player was introduced in 2008 and was designed to stream Netflix. Later generations of the Roku have the capability to stream over 1,000 channels.
