What is the Roux method?

The Roux method is a technique for quickly solving a Rubik's Cube. It involves first building a 1x2x3 block of matched colors on one side of the cube, then building a similar block on the opposite side. After this, the corners, edges and centers can be solved.

The Roux method is intended for competitive "speed solving" of cubes. The technique relies heavily on "M-slice" moves, or rotating the middle layers while keeping the outside layers stable. The technique is named after its creator, Gilles Roux, a competitive French speedcuber who won the 3x3 Fewest Moves event at the European Rubik's Cube Competition in 2006.
