The Royal Star magnolia, or Magnolia stellata, is a tree with a star-shaped flower that originated in Japan. It is hardy in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 8.

The Royal Star magnolia grows 10 to 20 feet high and 8 to 15 feet wide. It has white, star-like blooms that blossom in March. The Royal Star magnolia prefers to grow in full sun to partial shade and has medium watering needs. It can tolerate clay soils but should be planted in well-drained loamy soil. Its showy and fragrant flowers make for a good landscape specimen tree or as part of a hedge.
