What is a Rubik's cube?

A Rubik's cube is a toy shaped like a cube that is made up of six sides with nine colored cubes making up each side. The aim of the toy is to match the colors of the cubes so that each side is only one solid color.

The toy was first developed in 1974 by a Hungarian architect named Erno Rubik. The Rubik's cube was not actually designed to be a toy, but was intended to be a model to physically represent three-dimensional geometry. The cube was first licensed as a toy to Ideal Toy Corp. in 1980 and went on to sell over 350 million units between 1980 and January 2009.
