As of 2013, the average cost of an acre of land in the United States is $2,900. This is an increase of 9.4 percent from the 2012 average, but the value in some areas remained unchanged.
The cost of land varies greatly between regions of the United States. The Corn Belt region, which encompasses parts of seven states, including Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota, is the most expensive place to buy land with an average cost of $6,400 per acre. In the Mountain region, which includes Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and other states, land costs the least with an average of $1,020 per acre
