What's the official state tree of Ohio?

The Ohio buckeye is Ohio's official state tree, having been designated as such in 1953 by the Ohio legislature. Named for the resemblance between its nuts and the shape and color of a deer's eye, the buckeye is particularly abundant along the state's rivers, streams and floodplains.

Since the presidential election of 1840, Ohio residents have referred to themselves as "Buckeyes," prompting Ohio State University to declare Brutus Buckeye their mascot. When Ohio resident William Henry Harrison became president, his supporters crafted souvenirs from buckeye wood to demonstrate pride in a fellow Ohioan's candidacy.

Ohio's state mammal is the white-tailed deer, and its state bird is the northern cardinal.
