Is it safe to travel on a cargo ship as a passenger?

Cargo ship travel is generally safe, but possesses small risks that are not present during standard passenger ship voyages. Some of the risks include the lack of life boats and increased fire risks. Some cargo ships contain dangerous cargo and only two life boats unless there is a larger crew.

Most cargo ships only have a few spare cabins; trips need to be booked at least six months in advance. Cargo ship trips are usually available as a one way or round trip. Since there is a limited number of cabins, there are no peak or off-peak prices. Prices usually include food, port fees and other accommodations.
