Many people have sung the song with the lyrics, "It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring." The lyrics are attributed to Mother Goose and have also been included in pop songs. The lyrics were sung by Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary in "It's Raining."
The lyrics were also sung, presumably by Jeff Lynne, and fed though a synthesizer-like effect in the Electric Light Orchestra song, "Rain is Falling." Mother Goose is the author to whom hundreds of children's stories, songs and nursery rhymes are attributed. Mother Goose's identity is unknown. Texts that refer to the author date back to at least 1626. Charles Perrault was the first to publish a Mother Goose collection in 1697.
