"A Meeting in the Dark" is a short story published in 1974 by Kenyan writer and playwright, Ng?g? wa Thiong'o. Set in Limuru and Makeno villages, the narrative emphasizes the dichotomy of cultures during the British colonial era through the protagonist John's feeling of alienation.
Ng?g? wa Thiong'o, formerly James Ngugi, is an African literary icon whose 1964 debut, "Weep Not, Child," was the first ever English-medium novel published by an East African. Although his earlier work was in English, he now writes in his native Gikuyu language. As of 2014, Mr. Thiong'o is a Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine.
