"The Mississippi Squirrel Revival" was sung by Ray Stevens. The song was released with MCA Records, the label that Stevens worked with until 1990, when he signed with Curb Records.
"The Mississippi Squirrel Revival" tells of an adolescent boy who catches a squirrel in a box and brings it to church to show it to his friend. The squirrel breaks loose from the shoebox and creates chaos in the church. During the frenzy, many righteous members of the church admit to major faults in their lives, such as gossip, church dissension and adultery. The song ends with a huge revival in the church, wherein many people are saved and thousands of dollars are raised for the church.
