What does sapphire represent?

Sapphire represents loyalty, compassion and love as well as sympathy, friendship and constancy. It is also a gemstone that symbolizes integrity, wisdom and strength. The gem also invokes royalty and has been used in healing.

The sapphire is a type of corundum, which is the second hardest mineral after diamond. Though the most sought after sapphires are deep, velvety blue, they can come in any color but red. Red corundum is known as ruby.

The most valuable sapphires come from southeast Asia, including Sri Lanka, Burma, India, Thailand and Vietnam. Other high-quality gems come from Australia, Brazil, Africa and the United States.
