Sawtooth oak trees originated in eastern Asia. They are large trees, attaining heights between 40 and 60 feet. Sawtooth oaks produce an abundance of acorns and are slow to lose their leaves in the winter.
The edges of the sawtooth oak's leaves are serrated. The leaves emerge in the spring and are up to 7 inches long. Before the leaves emerge, the tree produces yellow catkins. In addition to the fall of the catkins, the abundance of acorns produced by the tree can be a nuisance for those preferring a tidy lawn. Sawtooth oaks grow best in areas receiving full sun and prefer well-drained soil.
